Poetisa británica. A pesar de ser inválida y sentirse cohibida delante de extraños, su poesía cobró celebridad en los círculos literarios con la publicación de sus libros de poemas en 1834 y 1844. Conoció a
Robert Browning en 1845 y, tras un noviazgo que mantuvo oculto a su despótico padre, se casaron y se establecieron en Florencia. Su fama se debe en gran medida a los poemas de amor que escribió durante su noviazgo,
Sonnets from the Portuguese [Sonetos del portugués] (1850). Su obra más ambiciosa, la novela en verso libre
Aurora Leigh (1857), fue enormemente popular.
